In Oakland, a presser to implore A’s, Warriors to stay

Friday, December 9, 2011

imageTwo of Oakland’s pro sports teams—the A’s and Warriors—are making noises about leaving town and Mayor Jean Quan and her entourage held a news conference this afternoon that was reminiscent of the classic Western, Shane. You know the part at the end where the Alan Ladd character rides off with the young boy calling out “don’t go.” Here’s the mayor, as quoted by SF Business Times:
“We want to make it absolutely clear we want to save and keep all three teams in Oakland. We are talking to the Raiders and Warriors and we are working as hard as we can to make sure Oakland remains the home of three sports entities.”
Noted: Nothing new, really. They’re reviving talk of transforming the Coliseum complex into a new commercial-residential-sports home for the Warriors and Raiders, and say a new A’s ballpark could be built there or near Jack London Square (options the club has made clear it wants nothing to do with).
