KGO fires a slew of talkers to go mostly ‘all news’

Friday, December 2, 2011

KGO Radio is going “all news” from 2 p.m. to imagemidnight starting Monday and that means it’s cleaning house. Among talk-show veterans shown the door: Gene Burns, Gil Gross, Ray Taliaferro and John Rothmann. The station’s star, Ronn Owens, will keep his 9 to noon slot and Brian Copeland is keeping his weekend show, the Chronicle’s Matier & Ross say.

Add: The big question is whether the Bay Area will support another pretty-much all-news station, especially inasmuch as KABC KCBS has a firm grip on the genre on the commercial side, not to mention KQED’s potent public radio following.

Noted: Blogger Rich Lieberman says it’s tacky of KGO to already be running old, taped shows of the ousted Burns and Rothmann.
