MediaNews to kill Oakland Tribune’s Monday print edition

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

More cost-cutting at MediaNews Group, with the Oakland Tribune in the line of fire. As of Dec. 19, imagethe Tribune will no longer have a home-delivered print edition on Mondays. Ditto for five of the company’s smaller NorCal dailies, including ones in Vacaville, Vallejo, Eureka, Fremont and Hayward.

Add: The company is presenting the latest retrenchment as if it were an enhancement, calling it “Digital-First Mondays,” Paidcontent says. Try telling that to NFL fans used to their Monday morning sports page over coffee. Has to be good news for the Chronicle.

[+] The Trib apparently still plans to provide some print copies for street sale.
