Oakland’s iconic 23-story Tribune Tower, which has been a zombie since the newspaper moved out in 2007, is coming back to life. It’s been bought for $8 million by call center company CallSocket, which plans to renovate and move 300 workers there. That’s about half what the previous owners paid for it in 2006 before the building fell into receivership.
Noted: The Tribune is moving back downtown early next year. More than a few folks had hoped the newspaper might re-inhabit the building it had occupied continuously for more than 80 years. It didn’t work out. The Trib has yet to say exactly where it intends to land.
