Santa Clara, 49ers say they’ve got stadium financing

Friday, December 2, 2011

imageThe team and Santa Clara officials announced they’ve lined up $850 million in loans from Goldman Sachs, U. S. Bank and Bank of America, the bulk of the $1.02 billion estimated cost of the 49ers' projected new home away from San Francisco. The NFL will kick in $150 million. The deal is a far cry from what voters approved when they were told the league would foot about half the freight. But, hey, that was when the Niners were losing, and, for now at least, Santa Clara City Hall seems a fairly giddy place to be.

Voice from the wilderness: Stadium opponent Debbie Bress tells the Mercury News:
"The amount is over $1 billion, the amount the 49ers are paying is very small. It continues to be irresponsible and swayed toward the advantage of the 49ers."
