As owners meet, suspense builds for A’s San Jose announcement

Thursday, January 12, 2012

imageWhether it happens is anybody’s guess, but media ears are perked for word—any word—on Major League Baseball’s decision to let the A’s move to San Jose. That’s because baseball owners are gathered for their winter confab in Scottsdale, Arizona. The A’s move into territory claimed by the Giants isn’t officially on the agenda, but after years of dithering there’s a growing sense that Commissioner Bud Selig may finally be about to act.

Add: A tip, maybe, took place between Christmas and New Year’s, when A’s owner Lew Wolff and fellow investors snapped up San Jose’s historic Sainte Claire Hotel downtown. It’s value would likely soar when, or if, a new A’s ballpark goes up nearby.
