Brown budget: deep education cuts if voters reject tax plan

Thursday, January 5, 2012

imageGov. Jerry Brown scrambled to hold a news conference scheduled for 2:30 this afternoon to announce his budget, after it was accidentally posted online today, five days ahead of plan. The grab line: It calls for another $4.8 billion in cuts to public schools if voters reject the tax increases he’s trying to place on the November ballot.

Add: On a positive note, if you can call it that, he pegs the deficit at $9.6 billion, which is better than the $26-billion deficit of a year ago.
