From sweat shop to Apple store, direct to you

Friday, January 13, 2012

imageConsidering Apple’s glowing image and the late Steve Jobs’ elevation to Silicon Valley sainthood, it’s easy to overlook that the iPhone and its kindred products are produced under sweat shop conditions in China. Latest evidence: Apple’s own annual report today showing, for example, “that only 38 percent of its suppliers follow the company’s guidelines for the number of hours in a week—60—that workers should not exceed,” PaidContent says.

Add: New CEO Tim Cook’s compensation is nearly $380 million, making him perhaps the world's best-paid chief executive, it was announced this week.
