New Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie’s introductory news conference is slated to start at 2 p.m., but coach Hue Jackson didn’t survive that long. He was fired this morning during a meeting with the new boss that, to put it mildly, didn’t go very well. Jackson, whose team finished 8-8 and out of the playoffs, later told CSN Bay Area, “He [McKenzie] is going to gut this place. He wants to bring in his own guys. No job is safe right now.” More: ESPN, Mercury News, Chronicle
Add: Nothing unusual about any of that. Raiders fans should probably breathe a sigh of relief that a) owner Mark Davis, with advice from John Madden, has brought in an A-list football executive and, b) apparently is giving him full authority to rebuild the Raiders organization, top to bottom.
Noted: Defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan got his walking papers before Jackson. No surprise there, either.
