As public relations disasters go, call it a bonus round. Oakland issued a lot more layoff notices yesterday than earlier anticipated. In all, 2,500 city employees got obligatory pink slips, and as many as 400 will lose their jobs now that state redevelopment funds are going away, the Chronicle says. Predictably, there’s uproar.
