The Chronicle’s Matier & Ross quote an unnamed “confidante” of the sheriff’s as saying the argument that fueled domestic violence charges against him stemmed from concern that the couple’s child might be kidnapped for ransom if wife Eliana Lopez took the boy to visit her family in Venezuela as she reportedly requested.
