Saint Mary’s coach suffers freak locker room injury*

Saturday, January 28, 2012

imageIf you catch No. 21-ranked Saint Mary’s basketball game tonight at BYU (airing at 6 on ESPNU) and notice that coach Randy Bennett has a cast on one hand, you’ll know why. A white board in the locker room at Loyola Marymount fell and broke his thumb after a game in Los Angeles Thursday night. He had surgery early Friday and missed the team’s flight to Utah for tonight’s game. He was to catch a later flight and coach, anyway, says the Contra Costa Times.

[+] He coaches and Saint Mary's wins 80-66 before a hostile crowd of nearly 23,000 in a game that seemed at times more like a brawl and ended with angry BYU fans hurling debris on the court.
