Berkeley school district refused to get rid of guidance counselor Anthony Smith after he was accused of sexually harassing a 16-year-old female student at Berkeley High School, even after concluding that his conduct was “inappropriate and unprofessional.” Last night the school board approved a $57,500 payout to settle the student’s sexual harassment lawsuit, Berkeleyside says.
Window dressing: Among other things, the district pledged to update the Student Handbook to make it easier for kids to know where to complain about sexual harassment. To a guidance counselor, maybe?
