That’s quite a free tribute concert to the late philanthropist and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass founder Warren Hellman planned for Sunday along the Great Highway at Ocean Beach. Hellman died in December at age 77. Emmylou Harris (pictured), Steve Earle and Boz Skaggs are among the dozen performers—all personal favorites of Hellman’s—to perform. The Oakland Trib has the performer list and more.
Add: Organizers say Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park, named in honor of the late banjo-playing billionaire, is too soft and muddy this time of year for the 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. concert. So they’re having it in the large parking lot and adjoining paved areas on a stretch of the Great Highway between JFK Drive and Lincoln Avenue.
Noted: Lest anyone fret, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is to go on after Hellman’s death. This year’s event is Oct. 5-7 at Golden Gate Park.
