The Chronicle’s Henry Shulman caught up with Giants president Larry Baer in Arizona yesterday long enough to get a cryptic—maybe telling, maybe not—response about whether the club may be willing to cede territorial rights to San Jose to help the A’s exit Oakland. Asked if the Giants were involved in negotiations with Major League Baseball to settle the issue, his comment: “Not necessarily.”
Add: Make of it what you will, but here’s what Shulman blogs at The Splash:
Baer also disputed the notion that the issue will be settled soon, and even disputed the assumption that it will be resolved by the Giants agreeing to a financial settlement in return for relinquishing its territorial rights to San Jose.
