The Mercury News and its affiliated newspapers goes two-for-one, editorializing that disgraced Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D-Castro Valley) and Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer should resign “for the sake of their constituents, their families and themselves.”
Add: Hayashi, the wife of an Alameda County superior court judge, pleaded no contest last month to shoplifting more than $2,000 worth of fashion merchandise from Neiman Marcus on Union Square. Lockyer, of Hayward, who is in drug rehab, has been caught up in a very public extramarital affair with a San Jose construction worker who has a history of meth arrests.
More: While it’s at it, the Bay Area News Group editorial calls on state Treasurer Bill Lockyer, who bankrolled his wife’s 2010 supervisorial election, to “immediately separate his personal from his political life.”
