Bay Citizen, CIR in merger talks; role for Bronstein?

Thursday, February 2, 2012

imageMaybe you’ve noticed that although The Bay Citizen’s editor (Steve Fainaru) and chief executive (Lisa Frazier) are leaving next week, there’s yet no hint of a successor for either one. The Wall Street Journal says that TBC and Berkeley’s Center for Investigative Reporting, home to California Watch, are in merger talks. Those briefed on the discussions tell reporter Stu Woo (sorry, piece is pay-walled) that talks are in the early stages and could fall apart.

Meanwhile, WSJ says that recently-departed Chronicle editor-at-large Phil Bronstein (pictured) “has been in talks about an editorial leadership position in the proposed organization.”
