Chronicle’s ‘breaking news’—from the Marin IJ

Thursday, February 9, 2012

Word of two suspected incidents of mad cow disease in Marin County, as reported in today’s Marin IJ by Richard Halstead and posted to its website last night, has reached the Chronicle. “Two Marin cases raise mad-cow concern” was posted as “Chronicle Breaking News” on SFGate at 11:51 a.m. No mention of the Marin IJ story. No sourcing either, except this: “according to news reports.”

Meanwhile: An updated IJ story that moved shortly after noon today says health officials have ruled out at least one of the two cases of Creutszfeldt-Jakob disease as the variety linked to mad cow disease.
