Devil’s Slide tunnel likely to open late this year

imageThe digging’s done but California’s first highway tunnel in nearly 50 years likely won’ be ready for traffic until November or December, the Chronicle says. Work at the landslide-prone Highway 1 trouble-spot between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay began in 2007 and was originally expected to open in late 2010, but the geology of San Pedro Mountain proved tougher than expected.
