All 4,113 inmates at San Quentin are under lockdown while officials investigate yesterday’s riot in which dozens were slashed and stabbed. AP says the fracas occurred in an exercise yard reserved for new arrivals and that about 150 to 200 inmates were involved. Guards used pepper spray and, ultimately, a few rounds of live ammunition to subdue them. Four were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. No prison staff were hurt.
