Gascon: ‘no intention’ to prosecute Mirkarimi’s wife

Thursday, February 16, 2012

imageDid the DA just call Eliana Lopez’s bluff? The latest twist in the domestic violence case against Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi: district attorney George Gascon says he has “no intention whatsoever” of prosecuting Lopez, Mirkarimi’s wife, the Chronicle says. Lopez, who’s been uncooperative with prosecutors, has made noises lately that she would testify at her husband’s trial, but only if given immunity from prosecution.

Add: At least now she has nothing to worry about from Gascon’s end, if she ever did. Her lawyer is also insisting on immunity from the feds involving immigration matters, which, however inadvertently, has raised questions about whether the former Venezuelan soap opera actress is in the country legally.
