Justices ‘skeptical’ of age bias claims against CBS 5

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

imageVeteran TV reporters Bill Schechner and John Lobertini were among 14 staffers purged from CBS 5 (KPIX) back in 2008 in a round of “cost-cutting.” Their age discrimination lawsuit against the station was dismissed last year. Now they’re trying to persuade a three-judge panel of the Ninth U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals to let them have a jury trial. But the Chronicle’s Bob Egelko says the panel yesterday appeared skeptical that they could prove an age bias claim. Ruling to come.

Noted: Lobertini (on the left, above) works at a Sacramento TV station these days; Schechner is producing stage shows in Berkeley.
