Mirkarimi wants judge to throw out domestic violence evidence

Thursday, February 23, 2012

imageLooks like lawyers for Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi have reached in the playbook and figured it’s time for a Hail Mary. They, along with their client, were in court yesterday asking a judge to throw out video and other evidence that allegedly shows bruises the sheriff inflicted on his wife, Eliana Lopez, New Year’s Eve. Not exactly a winning approach for a politician who insists he’s innocent of domestic violence. Unless, of course, it’s about all you’ve got.

Add: A trial judge, who will make the evidence call, is expected to be named tomorrow, with jury selection to begin next week.

Noted: Partial sound bite from the sheriff outside court, as reported by the Chronicle’s Jaxon Van Derbeken: He’s just “looking forward to getting this past us.”
