  • DA George Gascon cleared a BART police officer of wrongdoing in the shooting of a knife-wielding homeless man at Civic Center Station last July. AP
  • Berkeley police acknowledged that they were keeping officers on standby for an Occupy Oakland march in explaining the slow response to a Berkeley hills home where an intruder attacked and killed a homeowner over the weekend. Chronicle
  • The San Mateo County coroner is being sued for a second time over the handling of body parts. Chronicle
  • Gov. Jerry Brown, who has rarely left the state since taking office, is heading to Washington to attend the National Governors Assn. winter meeting and will also meet with President Obama. Capitol Alert
  • The operator of one of Vallejo’s more prominent medical marijuana dispensaries was arrested following a raid of his home and business by federal, state and local agents. Vallejo Times-Herald
  • Tom Martinez, 66, the former College of San Mateo football coach who began mentoring Tom Brady when the future Super Bowl quarterback was 12, died of a heart attack while undergoing kidney dialysis. ABC 7
