  • The mother of a UC student severely brain damaged after a drug overdose sued UC and the Berkeley Student Cooperative, saying they knew drug use was rampant there and failed to protect the student. Chronicle
  • Gas prices in California have shot up an average of 23 cents in week, to an average of $4.14 a gallon. Mercury News
  • AC Transit will pay new general manager David Armijo $245,000 a year, about 11 percent less than his predecessor. Contra Costa Times
  • In a last ditch effort to avoid eviction, owners of the venerable Gold Dust Lounge near Union Square sued the landlord, claiming, among other things, elder abuse. Bay City News Service
  • The Warriors’ Stephen Curry will skip the Skills Challenge Saturday as part of NBA All-Star activities to nurse his right foot, injured in Wednesday’s win at Phoenix. Mercury News
