Got to hand it to Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who, until Jerry Brown returns from a weekend at the National Governors Conference in Washington, is acting governor. Newsom sat down with the Chronicle’s editorial board and essentially said that unless the lieutenant governor is given something more meaningful to do, he’s in favor of dissolving the office.
Add: As the Chronicle’s Carla Marinucci blogs, Newsom suggests having the governor and the Lite Gov
run on a ticket, as opposed to each person for themselves. And in a quote that’s probably already being parsed for hidden meaning, he says of Brown: “If he runs again and wins, he should have someone in whom he has great confidence and supports.”
