Oakland Zoo, Children's Fairyland spared budget cuts

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

imageExpectations game? Oakland’s budget pain wasn’t as bad as folks were earlier led to believe when push came to shove at the City Council last night, ahead of today’s formal end of state redevelopment money. Spared: the Oakland Zoo, Children’s Fairyland and Peralta Hacienda—each said to be bracing for 40 percent budget cuts. Didn’t happen. And it looks like about 80 city workers will lose their jobs, not the rumored 100 or so. Mayor Jean Quan’s administration reached into the budget tricks bag and found an old fire station to sell off, among other things.
