State Attorney General Kamala Harris has been cagey about whether she will go along with the Obama administration’s push to settle civil litigation against big banks for mortgage loan abuses. Critics have called the administration’s $25 billion proposal a sell-out that amounts to pennies on the dollar compared to what the banks should be asked to fork over. The deal has been in limbo ever since Harris, representing California, balked a year ago. Now, as crunch time approaches, the LA Times cites sources as saying last night Harris might climb aboard after all.
