Pete Stark chases KTVU news crew from town hall

Monday, February 13, 2012

imageRep. Pete Stark (D-Fremont), who’s 80 and seeking his 20th term in Congress, gave a KTVU 2 news crew the boot from a town hall Saturday at Hayward City Hall. The Chronicle’s Carla Marinucci cites witnesses who said he declared, “No news media is allowed in here,” and after being reminded it was a public event, retorted, “I don’t care. This is my meeting—and you can’t come in here.” He’s said to have then uttered an expletive and walked away.

Add: Stark has had his share of unflattering YouTube moments. Marinucci provides examples (including the one from a 2009 town hall, below). Stark may still be smarting over KTVU’s not long ago sending a crew to the East Bay neighborhood (San Lorenzo) where he claims a primary residence. He lives in Maryland. They showed local folks an 8x10 photo of Stark, and couldn’t find anyone who recognized him.
