Why the Bay Citizen-CIR merger won’t be easy

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

The biggest hurdles for the just-announced merger between The Bay Citizen and Berkeley’s imageCenter for Investigative Reporting, home to California Watch, are likely to be internal stuff, stays Chris Rauber at San Francisco Business Times. That includes figuring out how to deal with a combined force of 65 staffers and 19 board members “which must be a new world record in the nonprofit board-member-to-staffing-ratio department.”

Add: Oh, and lest anyone forget, The Bay Citizen is a union shop. CIR/California Watch isn’t.
