Writer says Jeremy Lin headline slur was ‘honest mistake’

Monday, February 20, 2012

imageSo the clueless ESPN headline writer gets fired, but the clueless anchor gets a 30-day suspension for the same offense: using the phrase “chink in the armor” related to Jeremy Lin’s game. Fired headline writer Anthony Federico is speaking out, calling it an “honest mistake” and apologizing all over the place to Lin.

Add: The NY Daily News quotes Federico: "This had nothing to do with me being cute or punny. I'm so sorry that I offended people. I'm so sorry if I offended Jeremy." Anchor Max Bretos, meanwhile, tweets this: "Wanted 2 apologize 2 all those I have upset. Not done with any racial reference. Despite intention, phrase was inappropriate in this context...My wife is Asian, would never intentionally say anything to disrespect her and that community."
