Amid bone-jarring austerity, CSU presidents get pay hikes

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

imageHow’s this for disconnect? Cal State trustees today approved salaries for two new campus presidents that are 10 percent more than what their predecessors earned, even as the system prepares for draconian enrollment caps amid severe additional budget cuts.

Add: CSU East Bay President Leroy Morishita will get a base salary of $303,660; CSU Fullerton President Mildred Garcia gets $324,500. That doesn’t include a $12,000 car allowance and $60,000 housing allowances for each, AP says. State Sen. Leland Yee of San Francisco, a frequent critic of the Cal State and UC systems, calls the salaries “shocking.”
