Bay Citizen covers its funeral—for New York Times

It will be up to the Center for Investigative Reporting to figure out how to integrate The Bay Citizen as one of its brands following their just-announced merger. It will likely be awkward at first—as exemplified by the piece about the merger that TBC posted last night and which runs in today’s Bay Area pages of the New York Times.

Add: For NYT readers, Dan Fost filed a scaled-down story similar to one he wrote three days ago. Adithya Sambamurthy’s somber newsroom photo of staffers lined up Tuesday in front of new bosses Phil Bronstein and Robert Rosenthal has an all-too-familiar look in this age of media uncertainty. It feels melancholy; like the end of something important, regardless of how the next chapter turns out.
