Bill Lockyer hunkers down; TV tabloids come calling

Saturday, March 3, 2012

imageBased on what’s known so far, the scandal surrounding Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer isn’t likely to severely damage the political career of her husband, state Treasurer Bill Lockyer, several political gurus tell the Sacramento Bee. Bill Lockyer has opened an account to run for state controller in 2014 once he finishes his second term as treasurer.

Add: Then again, little is known about what Lockyer knew of his wife’s substance abuse problems during the time he fronted her 2010 campaign with $1.5 million. The Sac Bee says he remains hunkered down, avoiding the press. As for Nadia Lockyer, she remains in drug rehab a month after saying she was assaulted in a Newark hotel room by a meth user with whom she made a sex tape while having an affair. No charges have been filed related to the Feb. 3 hotel incident.

Noted: Among those who’ve “reached out” to Bill Lockyer: “Dr. Phil” and “Inside Edition.”
