This might not seem like much, but in a foodie town like San Francisco you’ve got to notice when restaurant critic Michael Bauer asks readers, as he does today at Inside Scoop SF, whether the Chronicle should drop its restaurant star ratings? The prompt: The LA Times has chucked its stars (along with its dedicated weekly food section, too, by the way). Says Bauer:
I, and many other critics, have a love-hate relationship with rating systems. However in the end I come down on the side of the star rating, as difficult and sometime as incongruous as the stars might seem.
