Examiner’s new owner tried to buy papers in Tracy, Patterson

Friday, March 30, 2012

imageFun fact that I overlooked about the sale of the Tracy Press in bankruptcy court Wednesday but that the folks at San Francisco Peninsula Press Club didn’t: The San Francisco Examiner’s new Canadian owner put in a million-dollar offer to buy the Press, the Patterson Irrigator and Press-Banner in Santa Cruz County. (That’s the Irrigator’s office in the photo.) The trio of newspapers were approved for sale to a Texas investor group, but only after it upped its offer to $1.25 million.

Add: The Examiner is owned by Black Press Group, whose majority owner is David Holmes Black. The company owns a slew of community papers in British Columbia, where it is headquartered, and Washington state, as well as the Akron Beacon-Journal and Honolulu Star Advertiser.
