Jerry and Gavin, an update

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

imageAmong the issues Jerry Brown was asked to address in a sit-down with the Chronicle’s editorial board yesterday was how he and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom get along—or don’t. The Chron’s Marisa Lagos blogs that when asked about the job Newsom is doing, the governor opened with this zinger: “I think he’s well within the tradition.” An excerpt:

“I think we get along ok, you have to understand … there’s just an inherent tension, it’s like between the the Legislature and the governor. Eventually the relationship breaks down, that’s just the way it is.”

But he didn’t stop there.

“There’s a certain tension between those who have a future and those who are trying to prolong their past. And so that tension will always continue,” he said.

Add: Brown took a dim view of Newsom’s idea for either assigning the Lite Gov’s office a meaningful role or dissolving it. You can view the video at the Chron’s Politics Blog.
