Landmark San Francisco skyscraper gets new lease on life

Thursday, March 8, 2012

imageMaybe the loneliest job in town for the last six years—being the security guard at the empty 26-story Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Building, aka the Telephone Building, at 140 New Montgomery. It’s been vacant, with developer Wilson Meany Sullivan’s plans for luxury condos there shelved by the Great Recession.

Add: But things are looking up at the grand 1925 skyscraper. As the Wall Street Journal’s local pages report today, WMS is going forward with a seismic retrofit in advance of reopening the Art Deco landmark as a potential future home to tech startups, venture capital firms and others.
