Mirkarimi ouster attempt? Mayor could decide today

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

imageAfter meeting with Mayor Ed Lee in the afternoon following his sentencing and emotion-filled statement to the press yesterday, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi ducked questions from reporters. The mayor is expected to announce today whether he will seek Mirkarimi’s ouster.

Add: Regardless of how it plays out, the sheriff isn’t getting much support from some in his department, where morale is reportedly low. Don Wilson, president of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs Association, tells The Bay Citizen that Mirkarimi can’t take credit for the department’s functioning while the sheriff has been embroiled in personal crises:

"The public should know that it's the deputy sheriffs, the rank and file, who have been doing a great job. We are the ones that work the jails and have to deal with these murderers and rapists and robbers. We're the ones who are on the front line."
