There’s a new “community engagement” strategy being rolled out at MediaNews Group newspapers around the country under chief executive and print-is-dead evangelist John Paton. At the Oakland Tribune, apparently, that includes . . . teaching people how to use Twitter and Facebook?
Add: Here’s the lede of the newspaper’s rather quaint announcement:
Have you been wondering what all the fuss is about regarding the social networking platforms Facebook and Twitter? Do you want to learn how to use them or wonder why you should? Maybe your relatives are giving you grief because you won't catch up to the "rest of the world." Or perhaps you just want to "friend" or "follow" your kids so you can keep a virtual eye on them and would like to know more than they do. Or maybe you want to learn how to blog and get some tips on how to get the most eyeballs.
For these and many other reasons, we are here to help.
Noted: Or you could just ask a 12-year-old.
