Saint Mary’s, Cal get the NCAA tournament call

Sunday, March 11, 2012

imageSo there are two Bay Area teams in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament announced this afternoon—Saint Mary’s and Cal. The Gaels (27-5) were a shoe-in by virtue of being West Coast Conference champions. The Bears (24-9) had to sweat a few bullets before being among the last four at-large teams chosen. They have a play-in game Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio, against South Florida, with the winner moving on as the No. 12 seed in the Midwest.

Add: Saint Mary’s is the No. 7 seed in the Midwest and is matched with Purdue in a Friday game in Omaha. View tournament bracket.
