Say that again: BART’s plan means tearing up new I-580 carpool lanes

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

About that new eastbound carpool lane on I-580 from Pleasanton to Livermore that taxpayers just imagepaid $125 million for in 2010: BART’s plans for its Livermore extension will mean tearing it all out. Not only that, as The Bay Citizen’s Zusha Elinson reports, it’ll also mean tearing out a westbound carpool lane that’s scheduled to be built later this year.

Add: Classic quote from BART board member Tom Radulovich: “It’s very emblematic of what’s wrong with transportation planning in the Bay Area. We’re in this cognitive dissonance, to be generous, or schizophrenia, to be more accurate, about what we’re spending our money on.”
