Cop skewered in journo's murder case sued for sex harassment

Saturday, April 21, 2012

imageRemember Oakland police sergeant Derwin Longmire? His work investigating the murder of journalist Chauncey Bailey was reportedly so shoddy that a high-ranking police commander said he should have never been a detective in the first place. Well, he’s back in the news. A female OPD cop is suing him for sexual harassment.

Add: Officer Helene Schmitt alleges that after she resisted his advances, she was denied backup and cover by other officers in street situations, the Oakland Tribune says. She also accuses Longmire of giving preferential treatment to two female officers with whom he allegedly had sexual relationships, including letting them go to San Francisco to get their hair done when they were supposed to be on duty. Longmire declined comment, the Trib says.
