How the ‘mad cow’ case was discovered in Hanford

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

imageAP has moved a story about how that dead dairy cow at the rendering plant near Hanford in the Central Valley was discovered to have mad cow disease. It arrived with a truckload of other dead cows last week and because it was at least 2 1/2 years old and a fresh corpse it met the government’s criteria for testing. Here’s the quote from Dennis Luckey, VP of Baker Commodities, the rendering plant’s owner:
We randomly pick a number of samples throughout the year, and this just happened to be one that we randomly sampled.”
