UC Berkeley official who boosted her lover’s pay fired

Monday, May 7, 2012

Remember Diane Leite, the UC Berkeley vice chancellor who got a wrist slap after helping triple the salary of a subordinate over five years while in a romantic relationship with him? Her “punishment” for violating sexual harassment policy was a loss of title and a small pay cut—to $175,000. A group of faculty and others were outraged. Well, Friday—just in time for the weekend news cycle that fewer people are plugged into—her firing was announced. (Her attorney, by the way, was Oakland city councilwoman Jane Brunner.) The Mercury News’ Matt Krupnick wrote about it for Saturday’s editions. The Chron’s Matier & Ross made it column fodder Sunday.
