For sale: Bay Area relic of the Cold War

Friday, May 4, 2012

The Navy is auctioning off the Sea Shadow, the once top-secret radar evading vessel from the 1980s that’s lived out its old age in the mothball fleet near Benecia. The price: $139,200 or best offer. If that sounds cheap, bear in mind they’ve twice tried to give the ship away. Too many strings attached, apparently. The video is from a Navy Days event in Southern California several years ago.

Noted: Jim Herd at San Francisco Citizen posts about it today, with lots of links.
