Hewlett-Packard to slash 27,000 jobs by 2014

Then-gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, now the CEO of tech giant HP, addresses her supporters during her concession speech after losing to Jerry Brown in 2010. If you’re Meg Whitman how do you make a truly horrific event seem a little less horrific? Advance the spin that ailing Hewlett-Packard may lay off up to 35,000 workers and then announce, as she did this afternoon, that 27,000 will lose their jobs by 2014. Mercury News
