KTVU 2 draws ire of rival stations over ‘scoop’

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

KTVU 2 was the first to air footage of Sierra LaMar kidnap-murder suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres being led away by deputies after his arrest Monday. No big deal, except that rival stations are up in arms because the footage supplied by the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department was intended for pool coverage, and KTVU didn’t share it until after the other Bay Area stations’ news shows had gone dark for the night. Sources at other stations tell blogger Rich Lieberman that rival news chiefs were also miffed that KTVU embedded its logo in the video before making it available.
