At the risk of evoking George Orwell unnecessarily, Assemblywoman and Nieman Marcus shoplifter Mary Hayashi (D-Castro Valley) is apparently hanging on to her chairmanship of the Assembly Business, Professions, and Consumer Protection Committee. You read that right. Plus, Speaker John Perez has just named her among 12 assembly members to a special committee to explore Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed overhaul of the executive branch.
