The Bay Area’s two major newspaper organizations—the Chronicle
and the Mercury News with its separately branded editions—offer some good news on the Sunday circulation front. Each is up from a year ago. The Chronicle’s Sunday circulation of 297,000 was up 1.5 percent, while the Merc surged 8.4 percent to 690,000, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation figures. It should be noted that Mercury News figures include those of its affiliated “editions,” including the Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune and other MediaNews Group properties in the Bay Area.
